Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre – The VSSC pioneers in rocket research and launch vehicle projects of ISRO. It was formed 21 Nov 1963 has small beginning at Thumba in Kerala costal village Jurisdiction Department of Space, In early 1960 the INCOSPAR and COSPAR of United nations was formed under leadership of Dt Vikram A Sarabhai. Indian National Committee on Space Research (INCOSPAR) pioneered studies on phenomenon of equatorial electorjet. RPP was commissioned in 1969 by Chemical Engineering Division BARC for production of solid propellant blocks.
Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai – Dr Vikram Sarabhai was one of the greatest scientists of India was born in 1919 at Ahmedabad. After matriculation Vikram Sarabhai proceeded to Cambridge for college education and took the tripos in Natural Sciences from St.John’s College in 1940. The effect of World War II her returned home and joined as research scholar under Sir CV Raman at IIS Bangalore. He was interested in solar physical and cosmic ray led, he built necessary equipment and took measurements at Bangalore, Pune and the Himalays. He completed PhD in 1947 after returned to Cambridge.
SPL at VSSC carries out research and studies in atmosphere science and space science related activates. APEP and IISU in Thirupantahpuram in Kerala are part of VSSC.
